Paul and Jason originally recognized Ed at the bar from my old Defamer videos and then every since then we've all kinda kept in touch. Paul was my VH1 friend I was referring to in the MTV video last week. Jason, as a loyal reader of this blog and the one who introduced Paul to Ed and I in the videos, expressed to me last night that it was kinda lame sauce that Paul got an official blog shout out before me. We decided to remedy that.
It was a great night with good friends that I followed up with The Midnight Show at UCB. The show ran on the long side, but there were some of the smartest sketches I've seen in awhile, which is what really stands out when you're watching comedy at a local comedy theater. You don't expect to get something that's totally polished, but it's a chance to look in to some new whacky, intelligent shit that you don't usually run in to these days. I'll probably update with pictures and stuff from that later, but if not, just know that if you're in LA and you like laughing a whole lot for only five dollars, you should check out the show one of these months on the first Saturday of the month.
1) Two high-fives for anyone who knows what movie I got the title of this post from.
2) Uh, hey... Webshots? No lies? The email you sent me last night feels a little flippant given the particulars of my current situation. Jetting off to foreign locales? No. They invented Flickr a few years ago and I got canned from my job on Friday. Your assumptions are a little bit offensive, to say the least.
4) Here are some pictures that I pulled off my camera. Just guess where I took them and what they are of. Your guess is probably as good as, if not better, than the truth.
5) Lastly and most important: To everyone who wrote me emails or sent me messages or joined Vox to comment on my post or whatever to reach out to me during what is a pretty sad time for me in a lot of ways: You're awesome and you don't know how much it means to me that you care. I'm gonna be alright and truth be told, it's been pretty clear that either Gawker or myself needed to make this decision for a hot minute now. I have been pretty visibly tired of this particular grind for awhile and part of me wonders if I sabotaged myself because I didn't want to make the break on my own. I worked there for a over a year (which in some ways is a Gawker lifetime) and I was a fan of Defamer for years. Working for Lisanti was a complete honor and having the opportunity to work for a site that I personally enjoyed so much felt like I was living beyond some of my dreams. Of course, I never expected to be caught up in the blogging world the way I am which is why this also isn't completely devastating. I don't have anything solid planned out in terms of paying my rent in December, but I have two things going for me in that department: 1) A heck of a lotta drive and 2) Complete shamelessness. Those two things considered, I know I'll be OK.
But thanks for reaching out, 'cause it's validation is my favorite color.
1) My horoscope for this month is amazing.
2) I got Ed to agree to do this costume with me for Halloween:
4) HOLLYWOOD.
5) UCB tonight. I feel like I haven't gone out in forever. (Since last Saturday, to be fair. That's a long time for me.)
6) The worst parts of the Verne Troyer sex tape trailer I had to watch for work were censored, save for him slopping on some puss like a fucking yorkie. That briefly ruined my day, but then things went up again.
7) The Shovelhead New Kids are getting picked tonight. There are five seniors this year, so lots of room in the family right now.
I am a guest on the show Worst Laid Plans this Friday at UCB.
This is a response I got from my friend Mike to the email I sent out to my pals telling them about the show:
I'll totally be there! I'm sorry to hear you've had
unfavorable sexual experiences, but in a way it's your
fault for not planning it on a calendar like I do.
Well, I should run as I am a busy guy! I have to eat
a banana within the hour and then discard any pens in
my household that I suspect might have a low ink
supply.-Mike
Pretty amazing. So anyway... If you'd like to see the show and you aren't a sick internet person who's going to use the fact that I've decided to intimate a comedic tale of shitty sex to a crowd of people against me, please make a reservation here.
This weekend felt long, but in a good way. I woke up early Saturday and Sunday to pack in as much as possible, and luckily there's a few things crossed off my list for this week.
Friday night I got margaritas with Matt and Lindy and we worked on our show while I got very drunk very quickly. I didn't even mean to get drunk, but when I was exactly two margaritas deep I started getting giggly and kind of sloppy. Casey Wilson talked about what happens after two "margaroos" on her Funny or Die blog and Matty and Lindy were two of the friends mentioned in her story. They have passed down to me the true power of margaroos... Seriously, don't have that third 'roo. By the time I got home at 9, I was completely plastered. I was passed out by 10.
Saturday morning I woke up to film a sketch for Channel 101 with Kendall. We did bit parts for my friend Jim's sketch series "Making Mistakes". After that we came back to my house and filled up a couple hours with hula hooping, fetch with Wagandstuff and filming. Kendall and I did a Steve Aoki/Cory Kennedy bit for the Monday To Do List. Granted, they are both kind of obscure for the mainstream population, but I hope it is funny to people who don't even know who they are. After that I had improv followed by a night out on the town.
This morning I started the day with the news that I had been selected to perform in Worst Laid Plans this coming Friday at UCB. I am SO excited to be doing the show and although I normally would blush at the subject matter (I can be surprisingly prudish about certain types of sex talk. It's the former Catholic in me...), I've seen this show before and laughed the whole way through. Obviously I would want to be a part of that. I also started my new improv class today. The class actually started last week, but I had to miss it due to the MTV Movie Awards. My class is HUGE but I'm pretty blown away by how talented everyone is, the ladies in particular. Ever since I got back I've been catching up with phone calls and making videos for the week...
Now I'm going to go pass out and do the whole "work week" thing all over again...
There's a dude jackhammering outside my place right now and my neck hurts.
For some reason I think Kendall and I both look a little bit like underdeveloped fetuses in this picture.
OK. I'm done for right now.
Also, if you're looking for something to do tonight, go see The Birthday Boys at UCB. I saw them host Harold the other night and I thought they were awesome.

It's tonight at UCB. Sometimes it's good to make reservations before the show on their site. Ed and I will be there. Our friend is in the show. It's about sex. It's funny. Go see it.
Last night Ed and I went to a gay mixer Downtown. We saw our beloved Sergio. An angry gay man yelled at me because supposedly the website I work for said something shitty about one of his friends once or something.
Then we got mediocre Chinese food.
This morning I woke up early to go shoot a sketch with my friends Brian and Carlos from UCB. We filmed it at Joseph's in Hollywood. For all of you who aren't aware, Joseph's was the meeting spot for a one Miss Britney Spears and a one Mr. Kevin Elizabeth Federline. Here are the pictures from the shoot:
Then I went home to play with Wagandstuff:
Ed and I are graduating from our 201 class tomorrow. You can come see the show if you want (even if you don't really know me! It might be fun to just go watch some improv! No one will know you're one of my internet stalkers-- not even me!)
It's at the UCB on Franklin. It's at 6:30 and it's $5 at the door.

I've been taking this whole improv thing pretty seriously and Ed and I already started our 301 class last week. I went to shows almost every night this week (except Wednesday) to keep my mind sharp and my funny on point. Ed had a really busy work week and could only see the Monday shows. This is what he said about it on the phone this AM:
"I didn't have time to go to that show last night but I wanted to do something, so I watched the Whoopi Goldberg Biography on A&E"
BRILLO.
See you there, maybes?
