My Coffee Bean went from playing Paul Simon's Graceland on repeat to some Train album. I'm actually upset that I can identify the band who plays this horrible music.
Graceland has been my favorite album since I was two years old. My mom took me to see Simon on this album's tour. I can remember bopping on the shoulders of a family friend to the songs that had become familiar to me on rides to school and weekends in the sunny backyard. Each song stirs my soul and brings me back to a happier time in my life.
I can't say the same for Train. I just can't.
I'm going to take the Los Angeles Metro today for the first time. Wish me luck.
Boston has a pretty remarkable train system called the T. It's cheap. reliable and spreads throughout most of the state on various commuter rails. You can take the T to Rhode Island, I believe. Boston's a small city and most people drive there, but the T is a great option to save yourself the hassle of parking and it's a fun way to see the city. It can serve a very practical purpose for those who can't drive, but it's also a fun alternative for families going to a Red Sox game or the Museum of Science.
Los Angeles, on the other hand... in a city where you can't go get a cup of coffee on foot unless you are particularly fortunate, there is really no public transport. There's a bus system that is well known for its bum fights and a subway system that spans a very small section of the city. I happen to live near one of the stops and happen to be going near another one of the stops, so I'm going to try it out.
I'm not sure what I'm expecting, but I'm going to have an open mind and plenty of time to waste going in... I'm supposed to be on the Walk of Fame at 11:00 AM for the Star Ceremony at 11:30, so I'll leave at 10 (four times what it would take if I were to drive). There's two reasons for this: 1) I hate being late and must control the universe 2) Los Angeles likes to feed on my weaknesses and makes EVERYONE and EVERYTHING in this city the....sllooowwwessstttt....thiiiiinnnggggg....eevvvvveerrrrrrrrr...... Has anyone else noticed that they live life below half speed out here? It's unreal. Get a fucking move on, right?
Anyway, I'll let you know how it goes. I'm thinking there will be interesting people to see, and if not, I will sedate myself with a book and an iced coffee.
