Exchanging Valentine's Day cards with elementary school classmates and friends is usually a sweet activity but one local mother is worried about the message being conveying in cards being sold in city schools. Instead of exchanging feelings of love and acceptance these cards seem to promote hatred and bullying. When Chandra MacNab's 7-year-old daughter brought home a book of Valentine Cards she purchased from her school's book club, Scholastic, Chandra couldn't believe what she was seeing. The cards in question are from a company called Happy Bunny and were rated as appropriate for students between SK and Grade 4. They contain messages such as this one which reads.... ''When you think back on what we had, I hope that you'll be floating face down in a river, and you'll always know that part of me will never care about you.' Or this one which says, 'Hate- it's just a special kind of love we give to people we don't like.'' MacNab, whose daughter attends MacKenzie School, hopes the Lakehead School Board will encourage Scholastic to take the book off it's order sheet. Friday the Board addressed the issue and while it did not say it will go that far, it does agree these cards are inappropriate for young children and will speak to Scholastic about the matter. MacNab has spoken to her children about the cards and says even they agree they are offensive. She hopes that by bringing the issue forward any other parent who may have inadvertently ordered the Happy Bunny cards will know what kind of greeting their children may be giving this Valentine's day.

Pardon me while I get political for a moment.
Have you heard of the Real ID act? Terrifying.
This site is clearly quite propaganda-y, but they've got themselves a pretty solid point. Do you want to be tied to the government via ID? I know I don't. Not unless it's some sweet thumb-pad finger print ID like from Charlie's Angels or something.
I will refuse to accept my Real ID so long as no one's gonna kill me over it. Then I'll shut the fuck up and take the card.
One of my favorite websites to read from an outsider's perspective is Hipster Runoff. I have no Hipster Credibility, I know that. Refusing to match my brightly colored clothes doesn't make me a hipster. Not showering or brushing my hair doesn't make me a hipster. The fact that I usually show up to work on time definitely contributes to the fact that I am not a hipster... BUT! I honestly do enjoy what they do, those stylish kids with their crazy nose drugs.
I think only one other thing on the site has moved me to post it before, their New Year's message. Otherwise, I'm hesitant to comment on what they do because I'm afraid I will reread this blog in five years and hate myself for one reason or another, but most likely because I'd either feel too harsh or hypocritical... but this I can post because it's fucking awesome.
Today, as a duel installment in their "WHERE DA PARTY AT?" and "MYSPACER WORTH BLOGGING ABOUT" series, they posted the video of this young dude Corey, who threw one of the biggest house parties Australia as ever seen.
Watch the video and then read my open letter to him below:
You are fucking awesome. I love your glasses and I think you made the right decision to keep them on. Screw those guys, right? If they can't handle your glasses, then they can't handle you. And if they can't handle a little automobile destruction and a twenty thousand dollar (18,017.26 USD) fine, then they can find a new neighborhood. Why? (As if I have to tell you!) Because that's where you live, Corey. And all you're trying to do is party and what's more chill than partying?
Also, I must commend your bold decision to ignore your parents who are probably terrified that the home that they have worked their whole lives to afford has been destroyed. I'm sure they are worried about you, but not as worried as you are for yourself, so that's good. Hey, as far as I see it, this is your vacation from them. You're sixteen, Cores?!? Take it from someone who recently turned twenty-four and just worked a thirteen hour workday: of all the years of all my life, sixteen was by far the most difficult. I had homework, like, everyday and I even had to figure out what to wear to my Confirmation. Do what you need to do to get by, man. Anything that makes it easier to just be you.
Keep it positive in '08!
Love,
Molls
I think Banksy is amazing. My friend Eric thinks he's lame.
Well, OK. I disagree. His art makes me (and I'm sure others) have a strong emotional reaction. That's pretty huge. It is getting more and more difficult for people to appreciate artists. How many artists that are currently working today can you think of off the top of your head?
I agree that his message may come across a little bit sensational, but I appreciate shocking, overstated stuff. It shows passion, perhaps even some sort of instinctual desire to get a point across. Almost desperation. I love that.
Here are some of my favorite pieces of his:
Two 18-hour work days in a row make for a very sleepy Molls.
I have a new found respect for anyone who works in news. Honestly. This shit is exhausting and I still feel like I'm the last to know everything.
I was shame spiraling the entire time I was making the "Everytime" mash-up that will be on Defamer shortly. There's something overwhelmingly depressing about all the Britney crap.
I sincerely hope that she's OK.
For the love of God, please Digg my story.
