ladies' month @ UCB
I've seen some good shows at Upright Citizen's Brigade lately. I'm taking Improv 101 with them and I took Sketch 101 two years ago, so I've been aware of them for some time, but just recently started going to the shows. (Fun Fact: I've smoked pot with all 4 founding members, including Amy Poehler.)
It's Ladies' Month at UCB, so all of the shows I've been seeing have included females and many are themed or generally have a strong female presence. The other night I went to a show with Slippy that featured Maria Bamford, the big blonde woman from Reno 911 and the Indian woman from The Office. It was stellar-- everyone was even funnier than I thought they'd be, but the breakout star was Maria Bamford, in my opinion. She has a great new sketch series on Super Deluxe that I recommend checking out.
After the show my friend Alex and I went around the corner to smoke a bowl before the next show and the woman from Reno 911 came out and I stopped her to tell her what a fan I was of her work. She was so nice and gave me a hug. I told her that I was a comic and about the website I work for, and she said that she had heard of us. (Although I'd be shocked if she had-- we're still growing).
Another person I've seen a couple times and have been crazy about was Jen Kirkman. She's a Massachusetts girl and she's real smart and real pretty and just the kind of person you want to be your friend 'cause she's so funny. I've been reading her blog and I suggest you do, too!
