Yeah, it's an old photo. These are my homies.
I shall give them names. On the left is my Megan, of course. She is awesome.
Next to her, oh hell, I don't have many good friends anymore.

Next to Megan would have to be Brandy. I am going to chill with her tonight, I guess.
Next to Brandy is Eric. He's a semi-douche who tries to have a heart. (I mean that in a loving way.)
And on the right is Emory. He is a skank. (I also say that lovingly. Really.)

Not pictured:
Justin, whom I hope is not dead as he did not respond to my text when I replied as to what I was doing at 5 pm today.
Kimmie, who now lives in Tennessee, is also not pictured.
Olivia, I have not seen for a while, I should text her about meeting for Moe's some night soon.
Jamie, who left me for Hawaii, and I cannot blame her for that.

You know how towns have those signs on the boundary. Welcome to Hellsville or You are Entering Craphole and they might state some interesting little fact, like Home of the Big Banana.

Well when we came home the other day I noticed our sign. And it has on it a picture of a blonde girl, leaning on the side of a ute, wearing a country and western style shirt and a cowboy hat.

And I'm wondering who the council is trying to promote the town to. I can only guess it's single men, under thirty with a strong interest in rodeo.

But when they turn up they'll be disappointed because I haven't actually seen girls walking around dressed like that. Only on rodeo weekend. Then they cut sick with the boots and hats.

We had the rodeo a couple of weeks ago. They have it the same weekend as the show. And it made me think of the clowns they have at the show and how I used to love playing the clowns when I was little. I was too scared to go on any of the rides but I could have shoved ping pong balls down a clowns mouth all day.

So then I did this challenge at the digital art quirks site where you had to use the photo of the mouth with the cherry tomato in it, in any way you wanted. And this is what came to mind.

Stop Press! Rilo Kiley Release New Album!

OK. So they released it in August 2007 (and I only just found out about it!) but hey - it's still a valid item title.

Have listened to the tracks available as a stream, and am not struck. Certainly, I shall not be rushing out to buy this like I did More Adventurous,which is still the stand-out Rilo Kiley album to me.It is pleasant and lyrical, so will probably benefit from further listening - which it is gonna get!

sometimes, the universe declares that you will learn something, whether or not you want to. the one i seem to be repeating over and over and over and over again is the one where i'm supposed to be patient. because i'm not. and it's one of those things you should know how to be, right? i will forever hear my mother's voice in my head, 'patience is a virtue....'

i've been waiting on these running shoes in the mail for three weeks or something. i ordered new ones because you can roll up my old ones from the toe back to the heel, and chances are that's not a really supportive shoe, anymore. and i'm training for this big race. and i prefer to not be injured.

so anyway, packages from the states have ALWAYS taken a week, 10 days tops. fantastic! ordered, check! in a box, care of my loving mother, check (and THANK YOU)! picking it up from the post office.........ummm, not yet. because my shoes are lost in outer space, it feels like. or the black hole of international postage. why am i even surprised?!

the ultimate irony of this came on friday, when i was sitting at home getting some stuff done, realized i should probably be out the door pretty quickly. okay, makeup, blowdry the hair, clothes, GO. quick check of the mailbox, and OH! OH OH OH!!! THERE IT IS, THE LITTLE NOTE SAYING THAT I HAVE A PACKAGE!

cut to me BOOKING IT to the neighborhood post office, where the oh-so-friendly (NOT.) austrian postal lady is all 'i don't have this. the package guy, he's still out on his rounds. right here, on the form, it says not till the NEXT day.' and then she looked at me like 'duh, you idiot.'

right.

which means two things.

1. this package is going to sit all weekend, three blocks from my house, TAUNTING ME, as i could be running in these new beautiful shoes.....

and

2. the post guy actually stopped by, and rang the doorbell during the 3 minutes i took to blowdry my hair.

yeah.

i dragged my frustrated shoe-less butt home, through the beautiful little square, complete with a church and the oldest heuriger in vienna. i went and practiced, and later when i came home, sat on my gorgeous balcony...and realized that i am ridiculously privileged, and should probably just shut up about the shoes. i have a sweet little roof over my head. i'm not strapped for money or food or love. i'm living out my wildest dreams.

they'll still be there on monday.

which was amazing. I don't usually like short stories that much, but hers are really good. They're funny and smart and occasionally weird and twisted. So yeah, definitely recommended.

I'm now into Reading the OED: One Man, One Year, 21,730 Pages by Ammon Shea.

(He read the Oxford English Dictionary and shares his favorite awesome words that aren't in common usage anymore.

So far, my favorites are:

All-overish: Feeling an undefined sense of unwell that extends to the entire body.

Disasinate: To deprive of stupidity

Forplaint: Tired from complaining

Mumpish: Sullenly angry

Dreamscapes, they hate my soul.

My subconscious mind's attempt to get me to throw myself off a tall building:

I woke up from a dream that had me thinking as I opened my eyes.
I loved you before I knew you. I love you still.

Thank god I left MSNBC on my TV last night. It's been a wonderful distraction and draw back into the real world.
You know, one in which love doesn't seem to matter.

I won't be fooled. I know love matters.
However, I prefer to believe my delusions that it just doesn't.
Right now at least.

You know in "New Moon," how Bella has a gaping hole in her chest whenever someone mentions Edward's name?
Yeah, I think I know how she feels there. I've become better at distracting myself quickly from those thoughts though.

So anyway, these dreams need to leave me the hell alone.
They are not prophetic. They are not soothing.
It may be a way for my subconscious to get what it wants, but my conscious brain is pissed right now because it has to work overtime.

My conscious mind's attempt to distract me:

McCain is trying to undo some of the damage he's done at his town hall meetings. You know, convince people that Obama is not (1) an Arab or (2) a crazed terrorist.

Politics as usual or has he regrown some of the soul he had before he sold it to the republican party and evangelical Christians?

Maybe he just doesn't want to be responsible for any attempt on Obama's life by one of his crazed supporters.

I have to get ready for work now.
